Cody from The Amazing Wolf Boy Howls into our Blog!

Character Interview

We are excited to have had the chance to sit down and talk with Cody Forester without his creator Roxanne Smolen around.  Hope you stick around to see what Cody has to say behind her back!  shhhh... don't talk to loud - we don't want her to know he was here!

My name is Cody Forester, and The Amazing Wolf Boy is the story of my life. If you can call it a life. Once I thought I had everything figured out. I was captain of the science club, had a 42 inch flat screen in my room, and I planned to go to Harvard and become a doctor like my parents. Instead, I became a werewolf. Yeah, I know. Weird, right? Anyway, my parents freaked like it was my fault or something, and they banished me to live with my uncle in Loxahatchee, Florida, as if that were a real place. I lost everything—my friends, my Xbox, my future.
Then I met Brittany. She’s goth, a no-no in this podunk town, which made her almost as big an outcast as me. The first time we met, I knew I would spend the rest of my life loving her. I couldn’t tell her that, of course. She was beautiful and perfect. I was the amazing wolf boy. Astound your family and mystify your friends. But, funny thing, when she discovered my big secret, she made me feel like a super hero with a double life. I was developing all these strange powers, like better hearing and quicker reflexes, and she was okay with it. Then her kid brother found out what I was. I figured if it kept going like that, I would have to enclose a wolf boy newsletter with my Christmas cards.
Just when I thought my messed-up life was turning around, a pack of real werewolves howled into town. I say real because they already had their superpowers, and they liked to kill. They knew I was a newbie just by looking at me, and they expected me to join their pack. When I refused, they took the one thing they decided was keeping me away from them—Brittany. I had until moonrise to find her and save her life. I learned something new about Brittany that day: she does not lose her head in a crisis.

WOW Cody, to be pushed away from you family and then have to deal with all of that!  I'm going to have to buy your book so I can find out how Brittany kept sane through all that - and you too!  So I have a few questions for you now...

We all want to be different, so what is the one thing you wish your creator had done differently with you?
I wish she hadn’t talked so much about my life before I became a werewolf. Okay, I was a dork, all right? She didn’t have to tell everyone. Like the time I was shooting baskets and wanted to show off in front of Meredith Taney by hanging from the hoop. Only I missed, seeing how I’m not that tall, and my watch tangled in the net. I just swung there until the backboard came down on my head. Things like that could have been left out of the story. Not cool.

lol... Oh I'm sure it was not cool!
If you could have added something to the story, and your creator would have let you, what would that have been?
Loxahatchee is a small town, but one of the more interesting things about it is that there’s a nudist colony. I really wanted to go there, just to look around. I mean, Brittany’s little brother got to go. How fair is that? He said they were having a spring festival with nude volleyball and weenie roasts and stuff. I would have liked to have seen it. Just saying.

hahahah - what young man wouldn't want to go check that out!
What do you love best about yourself? What do you like least?
If you had asked that a few months ago, I’d have said I hated being a werewolf. But I’m getting used to it. I love chasing rabbits in the Everglades, hearing their little hearts pitter-pat as they try to get away. So, I guess I’d say I love that I can turn into a wolf, but I hate that I suck at keeping secrets.
What part of the book was the hardest for you and your creator to work through?
Being the new kid in school, I made more enemies than friends. It wasn’t like I was obnoxious or anything. But I got on the wrong side of the star football player, and he… showed me the depth of his dislike. Man, I never want to live through that again. Read the book. You’ll know exactly which scene I’m referring to.

I can't wait to read it!

Is there a sequel for this book? If so, what do you want to accomplish in the next book.  If not, do you wish you could continue your story?
Yes, there is. My biographer is scribbling it down as fast as it happens. She’s calling it Problem Parents which I think is a stupid title, but there you go. It picks up right where the last book ends, so you don’t miss a thing, and it deals with my parents and why they were so quick to banish me. I can’t wait to find out how that turns out.

Geraldine Solon Talks Chocolicious!

  It's Writer Wednesday (Yes I know it's Friday), but our guest is a very talented woman and I had a chance to sit down and talk to her and was too excited to not share it with you right away!

Welcome Geraldine Solon!

Tell us a bit about yourself:

Do you work another job when you are not writing?
Yes, I work at Stanford University at the Center for International Development. I organize events for the department.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing?
I love to watch movies, read books and have dinner out with my family and friends.

What is your favorite color? Why?
I love the color black because it’s simple and elegant and matches with any other color.

What is your favorite season? Why?
Definitely the summer because I love the beach and staying outdoors all the time.

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?
There are so many places on my list, but one would be Paris because it’s the most elegant city in the world. Italy because of the food and culture, and another place would be Maldives since it’s tranquil and I love the island life.

If you could have any car, what would it be?
Probably a Jaguar because it’s not too common.

Tell us about your writing:

How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?
I started writing poems when I was eight years old, then I ventured into short stories. I was a contributing writer for a newspaper when I was in my twenties, but I never wrote a book until I turned thirty. I wrote children’s books but soon found my higher calling in writing stories about love and relationships geared for women. Even if I ventured in other careers, writing has always been my passion.
How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?
Four hours a day and mostly at night when my family is asleep.
Is there some place special you like to be when you write?
 I hope to have my own office someday, but for now I write in my living room.
Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?
 I prefer to have no music so I can allow my imagination to take me to places I’ve never been and listen to what my characters are telling me.

Tell us about your book:
What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?
Chocolicious is a stand alone book which is about love, loss and a mother’s sacrifice.
Where did the idea come from?
I was craving for a rich-filled, three-layered chocolate cupcake when a vision of a woman in distressed flashed through my mind. As the story began to unfold, I knew that chocolate had to play a significant role to the novel.
How long did it take to write?
It took me three months to finish my first draft, another month to write down notes and complete my second draft.  I sent it to my editor to edit, then it took me another month to do some rewrites and finalize her edits.  The whole process took six months.

Your other work:
Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?
My first book, Love Letters is a Romance novel about second chances. I just finished my third novel, The Assignment which is about love, betrayal and forgiveness. My editor is editing the book now and I hope to release it by early next year.

Christine Cunningham joins us for Writer Wednesday

  It's Writer Wednesday and we are happy to have
Christine Cunningham
here with us today!

Welcome Christine!

Tell us a bit about yourself:
Do you work another job when you are not writing?
I have chosen to work solely as an author since March 2011

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing?
I have so many favorite things to do. I love to watch documentaries and crochet (I need to keep my fingers busy while sitting). I love to play the piano and sing. I enjoy learning languages and my current study is French. I love exploring my home state, sewing, cooking. Mainly I’m a jack-of-most-trades.

What is your favorite color? Why?
My favorite color depends on my mood, much like music. Or the mood I want to get in to. I associate color with emotion and use that to my advantage to manipulate how I feel.

What is your favorite season? Why?
I really like summer and spring for doing independent things like writing, gardening and exploring, but I adore the fall and winter for gathering with family and friends to celebrate.

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?
I would love to live in a New York theatre. I would have plenty of delightful entertainment and tons of people watching to boot! Think of the stories that could flow from that experience.

If you could have any car, what would it be?
I adore the car I have now. It’s a white ’89 Honda, Civic. Excellent gas mileage and can fit into really tight parking spaces. But to be truthful I have always dreamed of having a ’63 split-window, midnight black, chromed out, dark interior, Corvette. Delicious!

Tell us about your writing:

How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?
I have been writing seriously since February 2011. It was an artistic outlet for the distress I felt about life and the potential for living it.

How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?
I generally write when I hear the muse whisper into my ear. This can range from hours to minutes. It’s so easy to get lost in the world of writing. You have the control, for the most part anyway. I find that if I try to make writing a routine I lose all creative sound and the words fall flat and useless like a poorly written joke.

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?
I love to write long-hand in journals (the first portable word processor). I have about ten area parks that I travel to. I like to go to malls to practice creative writing and the lion’s share of the time I spend in front of my computer.

Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?
Music can help or hinder me. If it’s a climactic scene I prefer silence so I make sure the emotions are true and powerful. If I’m listening to music I feel like I’m just borrowing emotion and not being authentic. This doesn’t trouble me if I’m just writing scenery, or tedious details.

Tell us about your book:

What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand-alone novel?
The title of my book is Eternal Beginning. I wrote it at first as a stand-alone novella, but I feel that voice calling to me again and I’m writing a sequel called Cave Wonders.
Where did the idea come from?
Eternal Beginning was written to give voice to the mental and physical struggle I was having in my life at the time. I was just existing day to day, following the rules, and slowly losing my will to go on. A medical issue forced me to take time off from work and I used the time to question what “I” valued. Eternal Beginning was written from my internal dialogue.

How long did it take to write?
It took about five months to complete.

What is it about?
Eternal Beginning is about a woman who one day gets fed up with trying to live her life as it is. To alleviate the confusion she goes to the forest. There she passes through a portal and meets her guide in the next dimension.  They have an in-depth discussion about how to live a life of joy.
Video Trailer - Eternal Beginning

Your other work:

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?
I am about to release a Christmas novella called First Snow. It’s centered in a small town in Eastern Washington. Through the characters I share my experiences with love in all its forms with some artistic license, of course.  I am also wrapping up Cave Wonders, the sequel to Eternal Beginning. In Cave Wonders our character returns to nature and meets with her guide again to discuss attracting people into her life.

Meet Halli from "The Chosen" in our Character Interview Monday

Character Interview Monday!
We welcome Halli today to our blog.  Halli is the star of "The Chosen" written by Andrea Buginsky. We hope Andrea wasn't upset that we invited Halli here today and not her!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Halli's words:
When Queen Laurali of the Knight Elves first came to me and told me I was a Holy Paladin, and she was selecting me to join The Chosen as their healer when they went after Prince Gastle, I was in total shock. I had no idea how I could possibly take on the responsibility of protecting five warriors as they went after Phantasma’s greatest evil-doer. But somehow, we made it through. The bonds we all formed are priceless, and I can’t imagine not having any of them in my life, especially my beloved Silvorhawk. Now, I wouldn’t trust anyone else to protect my family on the quests that Queen Laurali sends us on to defend Phantasma.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you Halli for telling us more about the book you starred in! Now can you answer a few questions for us?

First we all want to be different, so what is the one thing you wish your creator had done differently with you?

Not made me nearly as shy as I am. I wish I could come out of my shell more.

If you could have added something to the story, and your creator would have let you, what would that have been?

I would have liked our journey to last a little longer. I don’t know about you, but I thought we made it all the across Phantasma a little too quickly…

What do you love best about yourself? What do you like least?

What I love best about myself is my openness to meeting new people and forming new bonds. I like knowing that others feel welcome in my presence. What I like least is how shy I am. Even though I may get along well with others and be open to them, I’m also very shy and quiet around them. I’d like to be able to feel like a leader sometimes, and not always a follower.

What part of the book was the hardest for you and your creator to work through?

The battle scenes. It was very difficult to do so many things at once and keep my concentration where it needed to be…on healing everyone. Things were happening so fast!

Is there a sequel for this book? If so, what do you want to accomplish in the next book.  If not, do you wish you could continue your story?

Absolutely! More than one, even. The second book is already done, and the third book is almost done. What I’d like to accomplish in upcoming books is seeing myself grow as both a dwarf and a Holy Paladin. I’d also like to see more about my co-members of The Chosen. I’d like the readers to get to know all of us.

Halli - thank you so much for visiting us here today!  Now we have to get down to the business end and give our readers the good information on how to find out more about the book, where to buy it and how they can reach your creator, Andrea Buginsky!

A.R. Silverberry Joins us for Writer Wednesday

 It's Writer Wednesday and we are happy to have
A.R. Silverberry
here with us today!

Welcome!!
Tell us a bit about yourself:

Do you work another job when you are not writing?
I’m a licensed psychologist. I see children, adolescents, and adults from late afternoon into the evening, which allows me to write and do book marketing earlier in the day. For a long time, I kept my training as a psychologist separate from my writing. What a mistake! There are over 100 years of theory and research about behavior and personality I can work into character development!

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing?
 Walk. But I always bring a notepad, because I get my best ideas when walking.

What is your favorite color? Why?
I’ve always been attracted to blue. No surprise that it’s one of three major symbols in Wyndano’s Cloak. The other two are birds and the cloak itself.

What is your favorite season? Why?
Probably spring, because of the flowers, but I also love fall, because of the colors and the crispness of the air.

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?
Right here, where the forest meets the ocean.

If you could have any car, what would it be?
My Prius.

Now tell us about your writing:

How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?
I’ve been writing with the intention of publishing since 1998. But it seems I’ve always had stories rolling around my head, and I dictated a few to my mother before I could write.

How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?
I used to write on a Caltrain. It was the best possible thing. My mind was clear first thing in the morning. I popped open my laptop, and the train sounds triggered me into writing mode. I disappeared into the story world for 75 minutes. When I disembarked, I walked for 25 minutes to work, with that pocket notebook handy to catch bits of description or dialogue. When I got to work, it all got turned off. I like to think that ideas were incubating. After work, I had 25 minutes to think about the book and jot down ideas. By the time I got to the train, I was primed to launch into another writing session. I wrote 3 – 6 hours on the weekends. The biggest tragedy to my writing was moving away from that train! I try now try to write an hour or two in the mornings, and I usually can if I don’t look at emails or social media first!

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?
I like to be in my office, where I can spread out notes and research, and tape photos and plot lines to the wall.

Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?
The train noise disappeared, but at home, I need silence.

Tell us about your book:

What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?
Wyndano’s Cloak was written to stand alone. I had no intention of making a series out of it, but many people have asked for a sequel. Who am I to deny them! Since I tied everything together, all I can think of is that people fell in love with the characters and want to return to the land of Aerdem to be with them.

Where did the idea come from?
An unpublished prequel provided the set up. As I was wrapping up the prequel, an image popped into my mind for the climax of Wyndano’s Cloak.  The end suggested the beginning, and I mapped out the plot line a  few weeks.

How long did it take to write?
A year for the first draft, three years for rewrites, and then a year with two editors.

What is it about?
Jen has settled into a peaceful life when a terrifying event awakens old fears—of being homeless and alone, of a danger horrible enough to destroy her family and shatter her world forever.

She is certain that Naryfel, a shadowy figure from her past, has returned and is concentrating the full force of her hate on Jen's family. But how will she strike? A knife in the dark? An attack from her legions? Or with the dark arts and twisted creatures she commands with sinister cunning.

Wyndano's Cloak may be Jen's only hope. If she can only trust that she has what it takes to use it . . .

Your other work:

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?
I’m finishing up the first draft of a novel, part spiritual journey, part coming-of-age tale. After that, I’ve got another children’s books I’m dying to dive into.

Where can readers connect with you?
I love hearing from readers. I can be reached on my Website, Facebook, and Twitter.

Where can we buy your books?
For a limited time, the ebook is selling for 99 cents on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and the iTunes iBookstore. The hardback is available through all booksellers, but the best deal is on my Website. Also, anyone interested in purchasing a personalized signed copy of the hardback, can write me at contact at www (dot) arsilverberry (dot) com.

Kandi visits us from Piercing Through the Darkness

Character Interview Monday!

We welcome Kandi today to our blog.  Kandi is the star of "Piercing Through the Darkness" written by Emerald Barnes. We hope Emerald wasn't upset that we invited Kandi here today and not her!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Kandi's words:
For a year, I lived like nothing had ever happened.  My family and friends thought it was best to keep secrets from me.  The secret that would forever change my life.  I don’t know if it’s a blessing they did this or a curse.
When I started Mr. Chandler’s General Biology class, I thought it would be an easy A.  I was never one for the sciences.  Theater is my passion.  I love acting, but what I wanted was to teach it.  My plans kind of changed once my memories came back, and Mr. Chandler decided to take matters into his own hands at serving my justice.
Do I blame him?  No.  I would probably do the same thing in his shoes.  Do I hate him?  Yes, I think I do a little, but I can’t hate him too much.  After all, he was the reason Jimmy and I ended up together.  I guess it’s safe to say that I have mixed feelings.
So, here’s the million dollar question. How did I forget?  How could I possibly forget something so horrific?  I don’t know.  My brain played a cruel trick on me.
Luckily, Jimmy has been here for me.  Oh, Jimmy.  I had denied myself feelings for him at first.  Why should I get to live a happy life when Mr. Chandler would forever suffer because of my mistakes?  But, Jimmy is so good for me.  He keeps me sane on those nights my mind wants to remember –   Sometimes I wish the memories were still repressed.
Read about them, and you'll know why my mind played such a cruel trick on me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you Kandi for telling us more about the book you starred in! Now can you answer a few questions for us?

1 - We all want to be different, so what is the one thing you wish your creator had done differently with you?
            I wish that she would have had me remember the accident.  Throwing me into a classroom where I was completely oblivious to what had happened almost ruined my life and was kind of cruel.  (Don’t tell her I said that.)  I’d like to emphasize “almost ruining my life” though.  There was one great thing that came of it.  It might not have happened otherwise.

2 - If you could have added something to the story, and your creator would have let you, what would that have been?
            Wow.  That’s a tough one.  Okay.  I think I would’ve had her add more about mine and Jimmy’s story.  You only see part of it, the protective part, and he played a huge roll in how I was kept from finding out my secret and how much we loved each other before and after the accident.  Jimmy is my world, and I would’ve wanted to share more about him.  He is after all the most important part.  To me at least.

3 - What do you love best about yourself? What do you like least?

What do I love best about myself?  That’s another tough question.  I feel so flawed.  Like part of me is missing something, but I guess I’d have to say the way I handled the terrible situation I was thrust into at the end.  Despite what happened, I still gave myself a chance to be happy.  That was probably the toughest thing I had to do though, and it didn’t come easy.  I had to learn to trust.  Trust myself and then my loved ones.

What do I love least?  My mind.  It betrayed me, and who’s to say it won’t again?  My psychiatrist said that it probably wouldn’t, but how can I be certain, you know?

4 - What part of the book was the hardest for you and your creator to work through?
The last scene.  It was touch and go there for a while.  In fact, the way she ended the short story our novella was based on – yeah, let’s just say you wouldn’t have liked it.  Well, at least I didn’t.   My story would’ve ended there.  It’s a very emotional scene with so much at stake.

5 - I believe there is a sequel in the works for you... so is there anything you want to say about your character's part in that new book.

Yes.  There is.  I’m finally happy!  The happiest I’ve ever been, but there’s an addition to my story.  An addition that if anything ever happened to, well, I don’t know what I’d do.  But there comes a time when I have to face Jonathan again, who still hates me, and fight – fight harder than I’ve ever fought before.

Kandi - thank you so much for visiting us here today!  Now we have to get down to the business end and give our readers the good information on how to find out more about the book, where to buy it and how they can reach your creator, Emerald Barnes!

Sensitive and Creative Dean Mayes visits us to chat.

It is with great honor that I got a chance to talk to a wonderful Austrialian Author: Dean Mayes.  Welcome Dean and please take the time to say hello!

Dean tells us a bit about himself:

Do you work another job when you are not writing?

I'm an Intensive Care Nurse working in the fields of Pediatric Surgery and Neonatology, which means my patients are often incredibly small. Just last week, I was caring for a newborn that weighed a mere 800 grams. She was born at 24 weeks gestation and was so small I could hold her in the palm of my hand. I have been nursing now for about 16 years.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing?

Spending time with my wife Emily and my two children, Xavier who is 5 and Lucy who is 2. I've just introduced Xavier to my sailing boat and as we head into our Australian summer, I'm hoping to get out on the water and teach him the ropes. He is really keen to learn too which is encouraging. My daughter, Lucy is a little young just yet for the boat but I think she will be just as keen to go out on the water as well. So we've got plenty to look forward to.

What is your favorite color? Why?

Lavender. Because it's versatile and calming.

What is your favorite season? Why?

Spring, because our garden here at home comes to life. We have a number of rose bushes in our front garden that date back to the 1940's which produce the most amazing flowers at this time of year, so I always look forward to spring's first flush. We also have a pomegranate tree in the garden and it is looking really good with lots of blossoms on it which means that we'll get a good harvest come summer. I have become quite adept at producing my own pomegranate juice so I'm looking forward to bottling some this year.

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?

I have lived the majority of my adult life in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia where there is an abundance of clean air and beautiful rolling green countryside. It's very English and there is something about it that I find peaceful. Also, the Hills have become a mecca for food and wine producers and I am a culinary maniac so that's another reason I am so enamored with the Hills region.

If you could have any car, what would it be?

I own a jet black 2005 Volkswagen Polo sedan which has a punchy little 1.6 liter engine. It's pretty much my dream car so I have ticked the box there.

Dean tells us about his writing:

I discovered my love of writing in Mrs Furnell's 3rd Grade English class when I was 8 years old. I initially sucked at it and we had this creative writing exercise where we would write down a series of words and would then have to incorporate them into a few lines on a subject of our choice. As I say, I sucked at it for the longest time but one day, I put together a few lines about a soldier's experience of war and it kinda blew Mrs. Furnell away. I received a purple dragon sticker for my work and from there, I was hooked. Throughout most of my life, I displayed a passion for creative writing but it wasn't until I finished university and I was able to take a break from the school books that my writing became a passion. From then on, it has been my dream to be a published author.

How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?

Being a Nurse, Husband and Father who is on the go all the time, I can't really tell you exactly how many hours per day I get in and nor do I have a set routine. I have found that often my most productive writing stretches have occurred at 3 in the morning when I'm at work and my patient is settled. I'm at the bedside all the time so I can take out my tablet and write. I also have a red leather journal which is steadily becoming filled with notes, pieces of paper that I've stapled to it, photographs of different places I've incorporated into my writing. I always carry that with me and keep it close at hand whenever an idea comes.

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?

I completed work on my first novel “The Hambledown Dream” at my wife's family retreat at American River on Kangaroo Island. The house there has a large balcony that looks out across a lagoon which is home to a colony of pelicans and it is the most peaceful place to sit with my work. I am often very productive when I get down there which is, sadly, no where near as often as I would like.

Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?

My first novel and the project I am working on now both feature music within their story and so I love to write with some music that is pertinent to the story. I actually find total quiet to be really distracting because I need to be able to conjure imagery up through sound and the emotion that sound evokes within me. Without that, the ideas don't flow as readily.

Dean tells us about his book:

What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?

The Hambledown Dream is a stand alone novel which is my very first published work. The idea for The Hambledown Dream came about about 8 years ago when I was working on another project – which ultimately failed. The idea was basically a “what if” scenario – What if a good and kind person, with the world at their feet, who has achieved everything suddenly lost it and the only way to get it back was through an individual who is their mirror opposite. That is to say – someone who is destructive, mean and lost.

The Hambledown Dream took about 18 months to write from the time I fully committed to writing it. However I should add here that I initially published the story in installments to my blog because I had come to a point in my life where I believed that I would never be published. I put chapters of the story up once a week, just so I could get it out there from inside of me. But something totally unexpected happened. I suddenly found myself with an audience – and a large one at that. And within that audience was a woman named Michelle Halket, a remarkable lady who is now my publisher. Her company ireadiwrite Publishing is fast becoming a notable indie Publisher with a roster of incredibly talented authors on it's books and I am very proud to be a part of that firm.

What is it about?

The Hambledown Dream tells the dual stories of Denny Banister and Andy de Vries, although we experience the bulk of their journey through Andy's eyes.

Australian Denny Banister had it all; a successful career, a passion for the guitar, and Sonya - the love of his life. Tragically, Denny is struck down with inoperable cancer and is destined to die.

Andy DeVries has almost nothing; he is alienated from his family, he moves through a dangerous Chicago underworld dealing in drugs, battling addiction; all while keeping a wavering hold on the only thing that matters to him: a place at a prestigious conservatory for classical guitar in Chicago.

As Andy recovers from a near fatal overdose, he becomes plagued by dreams - memories of a love he has never felt, and a life he's never lived. Driven by the need for redemption and by the love for a woman he's never met, Andy begins a quest to find her, knowing her only by the memories of a stranger and the dreams of a place called Hambledown.

Dean talks about his other work:

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?

I am currently working on my second novel which carries the working title “Gifts Of The Peramangk”. This tells the story of an 8 year old Aboriginal girl named Ruby who lives in abject poverty and appalling domestic violence in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide here in Australia. In this depressing environment it would seem that Ruby's hopes for the future are bleak indeed.

However Ruby has a gift. She is an undiscovered violin virtuoso – having been taught the instrument by her ailing grandmother Virginia, who herself was taught to play during one of the darkest periods of Australian history – the Stolen Generations and The White Australia Policy.

As Ruby becomes steadily more proficient amidst violence and despair, she and her gift are about to be discovered and she will be presented with a chance to escape her meagre existence. However, her chances will be threatened by an ingrained culture of racism, poverty and ignorance that will challenge her path towards a brighter future.

Where can readers connect with you?

I blog weekly at my official site Dean from Australia Dot Com (http://www.deanfromaustralia.com) where apart from keeping people abreast of what I'm doing, I like to mix it up a little with my own reviews of books, music, culture and current affairs. Readers can sample my writing through my short story section where there are a number of free shorts to read and they can sample a free audio version of my novel “The Hambledown Dream” which I read myself. There are also a number of audio interview downloads from shows I have appeared on both here in Australia and overseas.
