Mention Monday bring us Author Tessa Stokes!

It's Mention Monday and we are happy to have

Tessa Stokes, author of

The Seven Spell Saga (5 books to date)

The Ruthin Trilogy (2 books to date)

Stone Kisses a stand alone and Newly Published novel!

here with us today!

Welcome!!

Tell us a bit about yourself:

Do you work another job when you are not writing?

I work in community education project delivery.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing?

I hope I can have more than one as it really is a tie between, watching movies, or reading, unless I am off visiting a castle or an ancient site. I live near quite a few.

What is your favorite color? Why?

It’s blue. I like it because the sight of blue makes me feel happy. I guess it reminds me of summer skies and sea, water in general and it just feels right.

What is your favorite season? Why?

I really love Spring because all the new blossom is out, and the trees have just started unfurling their leaves. There are lambs around in the fields where I live springing about looking gorgeous. The forest I live opposite is going green again. Everything seems hopeful and fresh. Daffodils grow wild in the roadside too where I live and there are trees full of pink and white magnolias if it’s quite a warm start to Spring

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?

I’m in the country I want to be in after living in many places during my life. I guess I would like to be nearer the ocean, perhaps somewhere along the Devon or Cornwall south coast.

If you could have any car, what would it be?

Well that’s hard to choose but I think I would have to choose the biggest blackest Jeep Wrangler Safari hard top.

Tell us about your writing:

How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?

I have always been writing but not fiction. I would write copy, advertising, educational curriculum and brochures for projects, training programs and academic stuff. Then I started writing fiction; stories which I had in my head for years and had wanted to write but never had the confidence. It’s suddenly like this; why the hell don’t you just write them Tessa? I asked myself and so I did.

How many hours a day do you devote to writing?

It often feels like every hour there is. Weekends and nights, holidays anytime I can get LOL

Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?

I just write all the time when I have that time. Recently I write more in the night J because it’s more peaceful and I just inhabit my own little world.

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?

I generally write in a room which has this massive window where I can see the forest and rural fields over the road. It’s very inspirational and changes with the seasons. Sometimes the farmer is out there working in the night with his machinery lit up like a UFO. There are hares, deer, pheasants, all kinds of other birds depending on the time of year. Lots of Red Kites , which are a bird of prey and they call to each other as they look for food.

Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?

I have all kinds of thing going on but seem to tune it out. TV, music and then silence. I just don’t know what’s going on when I am ‘in my writing’ so to speak. Hours go by and I realize I missed a documentary I wanted to see or The Vampire Diaries LOL or the CD has been finished for hours. J

Tell us about your book:

I have chosen to tell you about the very latest release although the second volume of The Ruthin Trilogy is not that long published.

Stone Kisses is a romance, it’s a genre blend of fantasy and romance.

A young woman living alone, working at her graphic design business has not had a man in her life for a long time and really feels lonely. She looks around her and sees only couples and she ends up longing for love or at least kisses.

Some distance away, left over from ancient times are two gods. They have a game they like to play and Stella our heroine gets caught up in it.

What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?

Stone Kisses and it’s stand alone

Where did the idea come from? How long did it take to write?

It took me about five months all up to write. The idea came to me when I was visiting a stately home and wandered into a particularly spooky part of the garden. It’s not a spooky story it’s full on romance, paranormal romance I suppose, although I have trouble deciding what my genre blends should really be called.

Your other work:

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?

I am currently working on book six in The Seven Spell Saga and the third book in The Ruthin Trilogy keeps urging me to add to the notes I have already made.

I also have another romance buzzing in my head as a stand alone.

Chasing Amanda

 Book Blurb:

Nine years ago, Molly Tanner witnessed a young girl's abduction in the busy city of Philadelphia, shifting her occasional clairvoyance into overdrive. Two days later, the girl's body was found, and Molly's life fell apart. Consumed by guilt for not acting upon her visions, and on the brink of losing her family, Molly escaped the torturous reminders in the city, fleeing to the safety of the close-knit rural community of Boyds, Maryland.

Molly's life is back on track, her son has begun college, and she and her husband have finally rekindled their relationship. Their fresh start is shattered when a seven-year-old girl disappears from a local park near Molly's home. Unable to turn her back on another child and troubled by memories of the past, Molly sets out to find her, jeopardizing the marriage she'd fought so hard to hold together. While unearthing clues and struggling to decipher her visions, Molly discovers another side of Boyds, where the residents--and the land itself--hold potentially lethal secrets, and exposes another side of her husband, one that threatens to tear them apart.

My Emily
Matt Patterson

This book tells the story of a hurting family, an amazing little girl and a mysteriously faithful God.

Emily wasn't born perfect - so one might think.

She was born with Down Syndrome and many would jump to the conclusion that she would have very little hope for a life with any significance. Two years later came the diagnosis of leukemia. What little hope remaining turned to no hope whatsoever - or so one might think.

The life of this little girl, with all its perceived imperfections, had great meaning. Her loving nature and courage touched the hearts of everyone she met. She also taught them how to value their own lives - even with their many "imperfections."

Book Launch - Parasouls, Divine Intervention by Michele Richard

Today we are excited to be part of a Book Launch

Parasouls
Divine Intervention
written by Michele Richard

Book Blurb:
Born amongst the humans, yet not being one, the parasouls fight to remain hidden. Using the ancient tunnels and abandoned, buried basements as their homes parasouls live in the underbelly of society in their own world, they've created a world where they don’t need to pretend they’re normal. Their gifts remind them that they’re not. When you can produce electric blue flames from your fingertips, there’s no way to deny it. Damian McNamara built and rules the world they thrive in.

Angelique is the leader of a special team whose job it is to keep the “normals” from knowing of the parasouls’ existence. Her gift is also a curse, leaving her physically unable to touch another living soul without inflicting indescribable pain upon them.

The Parasoul Acquisition Control Taskforce hunts them for what they are.

Shane is the headhunter for the taskforce. Like Angelique, he’s never been able to touch anyone due to his gift of red and orange flames that singes the flesh of others.

The moment Shane and Angelique meet, the heavens open and connect their souls forever. So what happens when Shane finds himself trapped between the only thing he’s ever desired and his job? He has no choice but to deliver the one person who owns his soul over to his bosses, the government’s taskforce? Which side is the good, the bad, and the dictators?
They’re both in for a rude awakening.

Can love conquer all when you’re supposed to hate the one soul you cannot live without? How long can they fight the urge to give in to their connection? Can two parasouls on opposite sides find common ground and forge a future?

Review by Stacy Eaton
  4- 4.5 Stars
A new author to me, and I am really glad I have had the opportunity to read an advance copy of this novel.  I am torn on the rating for this, as I really enjoyed it and if I could give half stars, then this would be a 4.5 in my book.

The plot line in this story moves along at a very nice pace.  The descriptions in the story were done so that you got all that you needed and nothing you didn’t. She definitely gives you enough to give you the visual without bogging it down with stuff that is not necessary.

The characters were well thought out and believable.  My one issue with the novel was at the start of the story; Angelique comes across as a very strong woman. As the story moved forward, I found she appeared to have lost some of her strength and I was very happy to see that by the end of it, she had regained that strong heroine feel about her. Shane was epic from the moment I met him.

From the first page of the book, I found myself pulled into the story and eager to turn the pages to find out what would happen next. Ms. Richards did an excellent job of keeping my interest and I had a hard time putting the book down, even when my eye lids were heavy.

Fans of the Sydney Croft ACRO series, will find this story to their liking as it contains the same type of elements.  There is a variety of characters that all have some type of special ability, all looking for that perfect match to make them whole. There are two warring sides that compete for the best of the best and some pretty intense but less graphic sexual scenes that ignited the imagination.

This book was thoroughly enjoyed and I am looking forward to how Ms. Richard’s moves the story on in the next one.

The Black Witch (Curse of the Witch)
Micheal Rivers
Book Blurb: It was the adventure of a life time. In an obscure marina off the shores of Maryland a schooner unlike any other ever built was discovered. Dorian and Diana Coe purchased the schooner and sailed from the shores of tranquility into the bowels of hell itself.
Prurient tales of suicide, murder, and the disappearance of an entire crew were hand written within the ship's logs.
On her decks sailed a well seasoned captain and crew that never knew the schooner's shadowed past. The new owners ignored the words of men with integrity and sailed the Black Witch in the Spring of 1935.
Into the realms of illusion and pure evil the ship and its compliment sailed never knowing the fate awaiting them!

Cege Smith joins us for Writer Wednesday!

 It's Writer's Wednesday!
Today we have with us

Cege Smith who is the author of
Edge of Shadows

Welcome Cege!!

Tell us a bit about yourself:

Do you work another job when you are not writing?
For the last 14 years I’ve worked in the assessment/HR space. Currently I am a Strategic Account Manager and so I sell my company’s products and services to a small portfolio of existing clients. It’s something that I enjoy, and I’ve been told I’m pretty good at. :)

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing?
I am an avid reader, which I think is pretty common for writers. I try not to watch a lot of TV as a general rule of thumb, but there are a few series that have sucked me in and I love the DIY renovation shows.

Finding time to do everything that I want to do is always a challenge, but I do enjoy volunteering for organizations that have programs focused on leadership development for women. It’s another passion of mine.

What is your favorite color? Why?
I’ve always been drawn to Yellow because to me it was the color of optimism and happiness (two things I always aspire to have in my life).

What is your favorite season? Why?
I love Fall. I live in Minnesota so we have the brilliant fall colors as part of the changing seasons. Halloween is also my favorite holiday, so it all goes together.

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?
I love where I live and I can’t really imagine living anywhere else. There are lots of places I want to visit, but home is here in MN.

If you could have any car, what would it be?
I leased an Infiniti G35X for several years and loved that car. I’d get one again without thinking twice about it.

Tell us about your writing:
How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?
I’ve been writing in some way, shape, or form, since I was twelve. It was a favorite hobby that has grown into something more, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.

How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?
I journal longhand everyday. I usually schedule blocks of time to write when I have a specific project in mind or one of my self-imposed deadlines.

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?
I like to write in my office or at my kitchen island.  The biggest thing for me is that there aren’t any distractions and I can sink into the words.

Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?
I listen to classical music when I am writing, and early jazz when I’m editing. Music helps soothe my creative spirit and quiets any other distractions around me or in my head.

Tell us about your book:
What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?
Edge of Shadows was the very first novel I released and so it is near and dear to my heart. It is the first in its series.

Where did the idea come from?
It all started with my main character, Ellie and the fact that she lived and worked in Uptown (which is a neighborhood just south of downtown Minneapolis). I saw Ellie and I saw where her coffee shop in my head. In the Uptown area, there are many large homes around the lakes there, and suddenly I had an idea for a ghost story. It all grew from there.

How long did it take to write?
From the first draft to when to the point where I published it, it took six years. But much of that time was spent exploring different publishing paths. I had a marketable draft in 2009, but some things happened and I completely refreshed it (including a new ending) in 2011.

What is it about?
Here’s the book description:
Fresh off a marriage that spiraled into a dangerous self-destructive tailspin, Ellie Coulter doesn’t believe in fate or luck. She’s been surrounded by darkness since her parents’ untimely death, and harbors a secret that never lets her forget that she’s different.

Ellie builds a safe bubble around her life that includes nothing but her coffee shop, her few friends, and her dog. Then a handsome young doctor, David Mitchell, starts to break through her protective shell and Ellie realizes there may be a risk worth taking.

Then one of Ellie’s friends abruptly leaves town; entrusting her home to Ellie’s care. The house has its own mysterious past that draws Ellie into a new darkness. Her ex-husband resurfaces with premonitions of Ellie’s death. And suddenly Ellie’s life is being turned upside down yet again, and even David can’t help her make it right.

Ellie is running out of time. Something old and evil has awakened and it wants Ellie all to itself. She must solve a century-old mystery and keep a grip on her sanity in order to survive.

Your other work:
Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?
I released a novella called The Soul Garden (a dystopian non-traditional zombie story) in January, and Heiress of Lies (a vampire dark fantasy story) in February.  I’m starting work on the Edge of Shadows sequel now.

Where can readers connect with you?

Charlotte Miller the star and Ghost of Malice & Murder speaks today

Please welcome character
Charlotte Miller
to our blog today!
She is the star of the book Malice & Murder
Created by Nancy M. Popovich

Let's welcome her to the blog and find out what her story is all about!

As I watch Charlotte enter the studio here, the guys are staring at her.  Maybe it is how smartly dressed she is or maybe it is her incredible long ash grey hair.

Welcome Charlotte!  Thank you for stopping by today! Have a seat and tell us what Malice & Murder is about.

My name is Charlotte Miller. I lived the good life in London, England, successfully running the art gallery in which I worked, until I inherited it from my uncle.  That is, before I was murdered and became a ghost.

A ghost?  Wow! You look pretty good for being a ghost! What did you do after you were murdered?
I wandered alone for five long years until my lifelong friend, Steven Hunter, was badly hurt during an intelligence mission. He is a former MI5 agent, assigned to an operation in Paris.

What did you do?

The universe allowed me to seek help from his mind and spirit to find my murderer, while his body was under anesthesia to repair the damage.  Our spirits meet in our favorite childhood rendezvous, a supposedly haunted glen with a slow moving stream. Unfortunately, this is also the place where I was murdered.

Wow, what an interesting way to catch a killer!
Stevie and I had a hot and heavy relationship for a few years. The wrinkle is that our affair ended suddenly—my reluctant choice given my secret life—which seriously hurt him.
A part of my request for help required honesty in revealing my secret criminal life.

A secret criminal life huh?
Regrettably for me, Stevie's sense of honor is somewhat rigid.  I hoped he would let bygones be bygones and help me, but he takes the law very seriously.

Most people do.
Finally, I discover the identity of my murderer, who by now has racked up three deaths, including that of a Metropolitan Police murder detective (a shy hottie named Rupert). We are able to follow a Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector work the murders, because of his connection.

Interesting twist to the story.
I've never before seen anything like what happens to the murderer. It still sends shivers down my spine. But if I reveal the ending, my creator will undoubtedly become angry with me and may not consider a sequel.

lol... Well don't do that!

Charlotte, We all want to be different, so what is the one thing you wish your creator had done differently with you?

She could have made me tall and glamorous like a model, instead of petite and waif-like. Who thinks of a hero as a child-like woman?

If you could have added something to the story, and your creator would have let you, what would that have been?

More earthly powers would have been so convenient. A fling with Rupert would have been such fun. But, it's possible she is still planning our futures.

Isn't he dead? Oh wait.. you are too. Never mind. Let's go to the next question.

What do you love best about yourself? What do you like least?

I love that I'm strong, competent, and loyal. I don't like that I threw caution aside and ignored the warning signals in my head for the thrill of a job. It got me killed.

Yeah - I wouldn't like that either.

What part of the book was the hardest for you and your creator to work through?

It was learning that the British Justice System's penalty for my murder (and the other three murders) wouldn't be satisfying enough for us, or we thought, for readers. Once my creator decided the direction that would satisfy, I considered it as just and appropriate. Although I was completely shocked at the turn she took, I was satisfied that justice prevailed.

Is there a sequel for this book? If so, what do you want to accomplish in the next book.  If not, do you wish you could continue your story?

No sequel is in the works at this moment. But, now that I have a sidekick, there are many journeys we could take. I may have to prod my creator a little to give us a chance to shine, as I know we can.

That sounds like a great idea!  Thank you Charlotte for coming today! You're story is going on my To Be Read Pile!!
