“Jules….Thanks for coming on such short notice,” Alexander said as I walked into the room. 

Yeah, like I had a choice, I thought. “Yes, of course, sir. I came as soon as I got your text message.” He knew I was lying. I had actually put off showing up for almost two hours. I always dreaded coming to see my boss. Once my best friend, he was now just the person I took my orders from. There was a lot of tension coiled around us, and even after forty years, you could still feel it in the air when we were in the same room. 

He would never forgive me, I would never forgive myself. 

Alexander locked his arrogant eyes on me. I saw the skin around them tighten while his jaw clenched. I leaned back in the black leather chair across from his desk with a calm expression and crossed my right leg over my left, resting my ankle on my knee. I waited, looking him straight in the eye, and tried to appear relaxed, even though I was wound up and ready to explode. But he knew that, no matter how calm I seemed.

Dark green eyes, the deep rich color of emeralds, regarded me from a strong, solid face. Long blond wavy hair fell to his shoulders and surrounded his angular features. He was wearing one of his normal suits, and as usual, no tie. Most people would have taken the jacket off to sit at their own desk, but not Alexander. I couldn’t remember the last time I had seen him without his suit coat on. But then again, I avoided him at all costs.

The office where we met was filled with expensive decor, including a dark cherry desk with matching chairs. The cherry frames on the wall held expensive original works of art. The entire room was done in deep rich colors showing taste and elegance all at once. No windows…none at all. But our type did not like windows; we avoided the sunlight whenever possible. 

Finally, Alexander rolled his shoulders back and continued. “Jules, I know you have been working on this case for a while, trying to locate Damon.” He paused and tapped a pen on his desk twice before leaning back in his chair. “Well, it appears he has surfaced again.” He was regarding me closely to see how the words would affect me.

As much as I hated to react around Alex, my eyes widened for a mere second, and I stiffened. Pure hate coursed through my veins, my eyeteeth slowly lengthening at the mere mention of his name. Damon. We had been searching for him for thirty-seven years, waiting to find him and drive a stake through his already dead heart. 

I controlled my emotions the best I could and took a slow deep breath, making sure my teeth had retracted before answering. “Where?” was all I could get out through my tightly pressed lips. 

Alexander knew that I was trying to retain control. If anyone knew the hatred I felt for Damon, it was him. It was something we shared—the only thing we shared these days. He didn’t have to hear inside my mind or see my expression; he could feel my emotions. It was one of his many gifts. He knew I wanted nothing more than to find Damon and end his existence…forever. 

“It appears that he might be in eastern Pennsylvania. Our sources say there have been some attacks on our kind in an area west of Philadelphia. It’s his normal pattern of killing.” He waited to take in my reaction. When he got none, he continued. “We aren’t certain that they are all from our breed, but the ones we have been able to confirm look to be ours.”

So close…he was so damn close right now. Just across the state line of New York lay Pennsylvania. I knew his behavior, knew it all too well; I had fallen victim to it. No, not myself, but people I had loved. People I would never see again: my wife and love of my life, Calista, and our beautiful five-year-old daughter, Anastasia.

“Julian, if you want someone else to go after him, I can send Gabe—” he started to say.

“No, Alexander, I can do this alone. I want him. I need to finish this myself,” I was quick to reply. 

“You’re taking this personally, Jules.” He put his hand up to stop me when I would have interrupted. “You know it is better to not have a personal attachment to your assignment. I have allowed you to stay on this case because I know how good you are and how focused you can be. I also figure that maybe your close attachment to him might help you find him, to allow us to finally grieve and move on.” He looked down at his desk, knowing he had made a mistake in his words as he fingered the expensive pen in his hand. 

I caught the “us” in there. Yeah, you loved her, too. But she chose me.

 

I couldn’t repress the sigh as I looked down at the beautifully hand-sewn Oriental rug at my feet, not really seeing it, but noticing its bright reds and blues, the same colors that were swirling around in my mind. Red for hatred and blue for the loss I had suffered. I was taking it personally, I knew that, but I would not allow any other warrior to find Damon and take him to the other world. This would be my vengeance, and mine alone.

Her favorite thing about being a detective was putting the puzzle pieces together to figure it all out. Tell us a bit about yourself: 

 I an 37, live with my wonderful hubby John in Cleveland, Ohio. I have had a fascination with vampires since I was a child but didn’t start writing about them until I was about 20 years old after I read an Anne Rice book. You will find researched facts and real life experiences (I was an exchange student in Brasil) in my stories. I absolutely LOVE vampires and no matter what genre I write, it always involves vampires. I currently have eight published books available on Amazon.com.

Do you work another job when you are not writing?   
Well…kinda. I’m a full time wife and daughter to ailing parents and a wonderful hubby. Writing then is my other job.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing? 
Watching TV with hubby or reading!

What is your favorite color? Why?
Purple is my favorite color. It’s the color of Royalty, Psychics and Power. Plus it goes good on anything…LOL!

What is your favorite season? Why?
I love the spring. I love to be driving by and see the tops of flowers trying to peek out of the ground. However, my favorite holiday is Halloween so fall is awesome too where the leaves have changed colors, the temperature is perfect and soon kids will be trick or treating.

If you could live anyplace on earth, where would it be? Why?  
Brasil! I was an exchange student there in 1991 for 6 months and loved it! The country and it’s people were beautifully amazing. Yes, it’s a third world country and poverty was very real but I lived 2 blocks from the beach and the water was so amazingly stunning. The people are non-judgemental and everyone to them is beautiful. Plus, I still think and dream in Portuguese.

If you could have any car, what would it be?
A 1939 Studebaker (my dad had one once), 1969 Nova, a Monte Carlo or a 1957 Chevy Bel-air.

Tell us about your writing: 

First and foremost, I write about vampires. I’ve written erotica, YA, horror, contemporary and an anthology but all have vampires in them. If it doesn’t have vampires, I get bored so I know the reader will be bored then too.

How long have your been writing? Was it a dream, a goal or is it just a hobby?
It has been a dream of mine to become a best-selling author since I was in middle school. In high school, my freshman English teacher took me under her wing and encouraged me to write. I have been writing ever since but it wasn’t until I read an Anne Rice book that I decided to write about something I really loved, vampires.

How many hours a day do you devote to writing? Do you have a set routine or do you write when the mood strikes?  
My latest book was released on November 8^th so after the editing was done, I’ve mostly been working on promoting. Lately, I’ve been reading others’ books for reviews, promoting and blogging. I have a story I just started but I just can’t sit down and make myself write. I have to write when the mood strikes me. I wake up at 3am sometimes and just have to write. It’s a little haphazard.

Is there some place special you like to be when you write?
I like to sit in my recliner, laptop on my lap, hubby next to me watching tv, dog at my feet and cat on the top of my chair. It’s very family oriented.

Do you listen to music or do you need a quiet place to write?
I go through both. Usually, hubby is watching tv but sometimes, when I’m struggling, I need to have quiet so I put in ear plugs and write.

Tell us about your book:   

My book is about the Vampire Queen who has taken over a school for ‘different’ children in Scotland. She rules with an iron fist and finally oversteps her bounds. Others step in to intervene in an attempt to over throw her from the throne. Past lover from books 1 & 2 unite in the plan.

What is the name of it and is it part of a series or a stand alone novel?  
The book is, Demise of the Vampire Queen and it is part 3 of my Vampire Queen trilogy.
 

Where did the idea come from?  
I had originally written book 1 and 2 as a single book but then broke it up into 2 books. I then decided I wanted to be able to say I wrote a trilogy so I started working on it. The book came fairly quickly and easily. The idea came to me in a dream and I worked feverishly on it.

How long did it take to write?  
It only took me about 3 months to write but a little longer to edit.

Your other work:  

Book 1 is The Vampire Queen. Book 2 is The Vampire Chronicles. My first erotica novella is Condemned by a Vampire. I wrote two anthologies, Tales of the Vampire: From A-Z and then a compilation with other-Midnight Thirsts 2. I wrote a YA story, The Reluctant Vampire and a Contemporary Bisexual vampire story, Once Sanguist, Twice Bi. All of which can be found on Amazon.com.

Do you have any upcoming projects in the works or other books that have been published?
I’ve pulled out a short story from the dust bunnies that is a vampire horror story that I plan on reworking and editing. Also, hubby gave me an idea of a vampire romance so I’ve started working on that.
